Today, it's becoming more and more difficult to live off of one income. This means that often times moms have few options when it comes to the decision of whether or not to work while raising children.
If you've decided to keep up with your career, whether through choice or necessity, you are be busy, but this is doable momma, I promise you. If you have chosen to stay at home, let me be clear, you are still busy, but your busy may look different. All kinds of moms are busy by nature, but it is how we deal with that busy that counts the most for our happiness.
Scheduling and Planning
When you ask most working moms about how they do it, you will often hear about their particular scheduling and planning habits. It's important to work out a set schedule that works for you personally not try and fit your life into a Pinterest picture or your friend's “plan that works so well for her”. In order to make a plan stick it has to be right FOR YOU!
Consider the following mom hacks and tips:
1. Plan your mornings. If you're not a morning person, try completing some of your morning tasks the evening before. Set aside enough time to get the kids up and dressed if they're not old enough to do it themselves. If you can, sit in silence for at least 10 minutes by yourself and reflect on the day before or the day ahead. This is NOT a time to dwell on what was not right or what stressors you have ahead. This is ONLY a time for peace and gratefulness.
2. Schedule events. Schedule your after work activities in a planner. This will ensure that there's room for everything and that nothing important is forgotten along the way. Play dates, grocery shopping, and other errands can be scheduled as well, but starting with SIMPLE steps is how long term goals are met and overwhelm is avoided. It will all get done, but staying out of the overwhelm zone is the key to progress and establishing routines.
3. Be flexible. Remember that everything won't always go perfectly. This is SO important!! You’re not a failure if it did not ALL get done. You need to regroup and start the next day fresh. If something doesn't work out and you need to rearrange your schedule, just plan to do something on a different day. Since you're juggling many tasks at once, keeping your schedule flexible and workable is the key to making it functional. Functional is the secret or the overwhelm and procrastination rear their ugly heads and once again, become reality. Read that again and say it out loud...FUNCTIONAL IS THE SECRET!
